Case study by the Swiss Red Cross Family Reunification Unit

Being able to live together with one’s family is a wish that cannot be fulfilled for everyone. This is particularly difficult for refugees whose loved ones have been left behind in unsafe and distressing circumstances, or who do not even know where their family members are or how they are doing. A stable family life can be a valuable source of strength and resilience for all family members. By contrast, people who are separated from their families may struggle to cope with the challenges of everyday life and often experience significant social and health-related burdens.
