Ukraine: Coronavirus

The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus outbreak in early 2020 started a global pandemic. The virus causes Covid-19 disease. Many infected people only developed mild symptoms but many fell seriously ill. A vaccination is available that protects against severe outcomes. Behavioural and hygiene rules help to limit transmission. The pandemic shows us how important it is for everyone to have access to clear health information.

Ukraine: Infectious diseases

Various pathogens, such as bacteria, funguses or viruses can cause infectious diseases. Both people and animals can pass these pathogens on to others.

Asylum-seekers from Ukraine might bring these pathogens with them. Only a small proportion of the Ukrainian population has been vaccinated against Covid-19. Ukraine is also a high-risk country for multi-resistant tuberculosis. HIV is more prevalent in Ukraine than in Switzerland. In Ukraine, rabies is still prevalent among wild animals, dogs and cats.
